Everything meant to be under the surface of such a large building has meanwhile been buried.

First enormous masses of earth had to be moved. Now the foundations are being laid, half of which has now been poured in concrete. The cistern serving as a rain water retention basin, has remarkable dimensions. It consists of a pipe of about 40 meters in length with a diameter of 1.2 meters and has a capacity of over 50 cubic meters. One will begin disposing the enormous quantities of earth, which are no longer needed, during this this week.

Background

Gerda Meinl-Kexel, Managing Partner of accadis Bildung, has always had the vision of providing international education to children from the age of three until university entering age. Currently, on an area of 5000 square meters, the new ISB building is being erected within walking distance of accadis Hochschule in Bad Homburg Ober Eschbach. Besides 16 classrooms and specialist areas, there will also be a cafeteria.

The result is that students and parents unfortunately have little or no contact to German students, the local community or the German language.

accadis International School, based in the beautiful town of Bad Homburg on the edge of the Taunus mountains, only 15 km from the city of Frankfurt, provides a distinct platform where both international and German students can mingle. accadis International School offers three education models, or call it pathways: one in English, one in German and a bilingual format - all on one campus.

This unique concept thereby allows international students to complete the requirements of an international curriculum and German students those of their German curriculum. However, as the student body forms a whole, there are countless possibilities for interaction between both international and German students.

Within the English pathway, at accadis International School, English constitutes the language of instruction, while German is taught as the first foreign language. Within the German pathway, on the other hand, German is the language of instruction, while English takes on the role of the first foreign language. The third pathway is a bilingual cross of one and two, in which the language of instruction is divided among English and German fifty-fifty. On completion of grade nine these students may then choose whether they will opt for the IB - International Baccalaureate or the German Abitur as their school leaving examination.

She has every reason to be as the first step has now finally been taken with the long awaited ground breaking for the new accadis school building in Norsk-Data-Strasse.

Little Lars Erik Wellmann also joined in at wielding the spade. The nine year-old genuinely earned this as he is – as Gerda Meinl-Kexel emphasised – the most “senior” pupil at International School Bad Homburg (ISB). He enrolled in the Preschool at the young age of three and will soon be entering 5th Grade in the new school. Erik was assisted in the ground breaking by Mrs Meinl-Kexel, Bad Homburg’s major Michael Korwisi as well as ISB Principal Christoph Veigel.

It has always been Gerda Meinl-Kexel’s idea to educate children in an international educational institution from the age of two right through to their university entrance qualification. This dream has now finally become reality as now the new school building with an expanse of about 5000 m2 will be erected in Obereschbach in the vicinity of accadis Hochschule. Besides the 16 classrooms and functional areas there will also be a cafeteria. Mrs Meinl-Kexel in future is striving to offer classes of 18 to 22 pupils. The new facility, which involves an investment volume of over five million Euros, is to be completed in December of this year.

accadis Elementary School goes Ice Skating

accadis Elementary School gladly accepted the offer from the Aktionsgemeinschaft Bad Homburg e.V. and booked the skating rink in front of the Kurhaus for the morning. The enrolment ceremony took place in the courtyard of accadis International School Bad Homburg. Parents, families and many, many friends attended. Mrs. Gerda Meinl-Kexel, Managing Partner of ISB, welcomed the children and at the same time introduced the new Principal: Mr Christoph Veigel. Mr Veigel brought his own school cone and prepared the school starters symbolically for their coming school days. An ear for listening, glasses for watching, a plaster for curing wounds and a heart to feel for others. This should enable a successful start.

We wish all our new 1st Graders a lot of fun and success in school.
